The Jim’s Ethos

The Jim’s Group values are as follows:

Our first priority is the welfare of our Franchisees
We are also passionate about customer service
We work constantly to improve our service and lower our costs
We are open and honest with prospective Franchisees
We sign only Franchisees and Franchisors we are convinced will succeed
We treat staff well but require them to perform superbly
As far as practical, we treat people as equals

Our core idea is that the people who pay us are our clients. Franchisees are the clients of the Franchisor, and the Franchisor’s key business goal is to see their Franchisees happy and successful. For this reason, our sole method for judging Franchisor success is the satisfaction of their Franchisees, as judged by our annual Franchisee survey. This is not to say growth and profitability are unimportant, but that happy and successful Franchisees are the best way to achieve our income goals.

There are some highly unusual clauses in our Contracts that back up this principle. Franchisees may build a business to whatever size they wish and work in whatever area they want, though they have an exclusive right of first refusal to their Territory. Most crucially, Franchisees can change to another Franchisor if they feel the service they are getting is not satisfactory, and if the other Franchisor will accept them. Further to this, a simple majority of Franchisees can force their Franchisor to either lift their game or sell. This is not something that happens often, but there have been several cases where Franchisors have sold their business as a result of Franchisee pressure.

The same principle applies at other levels also. Franchisors may vote out their Divisionals or Administration Centers if they are not happy with the service they provide. In 2005, at a time of some unrest, Jim conducted a referendum with the promise to sell Jim’s Group if he could not get majority support (obviously, he did).
