| Jim’s Dog Wash Can’t Keep Up with the Leads |

Jim’s Dog Wash had to turn down nearly 2,000 jobs across Australia this November, simply because the division doesn’t have enough franchisees to meet the demand.
Divisional Franchisor Michael Johnston said it’s driving him “barking mad,” because potential franchisees are missing out on some great business opportunities.
“It’s really frustrating, when you look at the dollar value of it,” said Michael. “Last month, we turned down about 800 jobs in the Melbourne area, or around $36,000 worth of work.”
In the past, Jim’s Dog Wash franchises have all offered full grooming services to dog owners. Now, Michael has introduced an alternative “wash-only” franchise option in an effort to attract more franchisees.
“It’s a lower-cost entry point option for franchisees, and they’ll be able to schedule more dogs per day,” said Michael. “Around half the demand for our services is for a wash only, so this is a viable business opportunity.”
Michael said potential franchisees don’t need any special qualifications other than a love of dogs. “It was interesting to note in the last franchisee intake a large percentage of people came from care-giving backgrounds, such as nurses and aged care workers,” said Michael.
Jim’s Dog Wash has been operating in Australia for 15 years, and it’s part of the well-known Jim’s Group. Michael, who is a former finance broker, bought the business in 2009, as he saw massive growth potential. In fact, the pet industry is highly lucrative, worth about $6 billion in Australia and nearly 10 times that amount in the United States.
Michael believes the franchise model works extremely well for dog groomers, as they’re often very good at caring for pets and dealing with their owners but may be less experienced in running a business.
“That’s where we step in and provide support and backup,” said Michael. “My role is to help them build a profitable business. We use some of the best grooming instructors in the country, including members of the Australian Groom Team, along with Jim’s proven training methods to ensure our franchisees have all the tools they need to run their own successful business.”
